Marvel Studios has announced today that the trailer for The Avengers, the one showcased at the D23 expo about two months ago, will be released to the public and online on Tuesday, October 11th.
With NY Comic Con this weekend, there’s a chance there could be a screening of the trailer there as well. However, signs currently don’t point to it, so it’s best to rely on the Tuesday release date more.
We’ll have the trailer, when it’s available, on Tuesday right here on Film Thrasher.
The Avengers will be released May 4th, 2012.
With reports earlier this week citing “Monster” helmer Patty Jenkins as the potential new director of the “Thor” sequel, the first film’s star Chris Hemsworth has already discussed the possibility.
“She has a great take on the story and a solid grasp on that kind of universe. Branagh read every comic book he could get his hands on. She also looked like she had done her homework” he told The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday from the Welsh set of “Snow White and the Huntsman”.
Then today comes word via Vulture from Jenkins herself. Asked if she’s up for the job, she responded “I can’t say, but yes. I can’t say anything definitive, but it’s exciting to be in talks with them about it. I think Marvel is really ballsy to think outside the box. And I think everyone they’ve talked to and hired has been interesting.”
Also today the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features a new cast shot cover for “The Avengers” which you can see below, along with several new photos:
In a country where the most successful movie about car racing is satire Talladega Nights, diving into the Formula 1 racing series, virtually non-existent in the eyes of America, with a serious movie about two of its leading men may not be the most well-advised idea. Nonetheless, legendary director Ron Howard is taking that risk along with financiers Cross Creek and Exclusive Media Group, producing alongside an army of others including Howard and Brian Grazer.
Rush will take a look at James Hunt and Niki Lauda, Formula 1’s most well known rivals in the 1970s, as they climb the ranks and eventually find themselves regularly battling for wins on the track. Set to star is Thor himself Chris Hemsworth who we’re going to be seeing quite a bit more of so get used to him, and Daniel Bruhl, a rising star in his own right, spending a lot of his career in German films, but finding an important role in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. The pair will play Hunt and Lauda respectively, driving for McLaren and Ferrari.
Howard has just gotten to work filming in the UK and Germany, where the sport is a bit more relevant, focusing on two famous tracks in Silverstone and Nuremberg. The team of producers at Cross Creek and Exclusive are hard at work trying to land distribution for Rush at the Toronto International Film Festival happening currently in Canada. Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairman at Exclusive, had this to say about teaming up with Ron Howard:
This is one of the greatest stories set in one of the world’s greatest sports; add Ron Howard’s singular ability to grip you with emotion, drama and thrill, and we are off to a Grand Prix race.
The list of talent working in front of and behind the camera, including writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) and veteran German actress Alexandra Maria Lara, will undoubtedly produce a great film that will likely spark more interest in the Formula 1 sport than America has seen in a long while. No estimated release date has been announced, but a movie about racing and Chris Hemsworth sounds like summer, so expect this one a little over a year from now.
A teaser for the Marvel Comics One-Shot movie A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor’s Hammer has appeared online, courtesy of the short’s cinematographer David Myrick. “They want to do some shorts about a couple of different days in the life of Agent Coulson. Some connective tissue between the movies,” Clark Gregg said back in August when the first short was announced. As with The Consultant, A Funny Thing Happened… features Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson and this new incident takes place between Iron Man 2 and Thor. The full short is expected to appear on the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Captain America: The First Avenger
